Important guidance for attending a visa interview
You will go through airport-style security screening. Due to the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19), we strongly encourage everyone over the age of 11 to wear a face mask. You can choose to buy a mask or make your own. Click here for information about how to make a face covering (sew and no-sew tutorials are available).
You must not bring laptops or bags above cabin-baggage size to your appointment as they not are permitted into the building and there are no storage facilities available. To save time, we recommend that you keep the number of small bags and belongings that you bring with you to an absolute minimum.
If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to the virus, you must reschedule your appointment through the Visa Appointment Service website. If you have recently entered the UK and you are subject to mandatory quarantine, your appointment must take place after the 14 day quarantine period.
You must bring a printed copy of your appointment instruction page with you to the Embassy. It is not possible to print this when you arrive.
You can bring your mobile phone, e-reader, or tablet device. Key fobs and cycle/motorcycle helmets are also permitted.
Large bags/suitcases (above cabin baggage size) and laptops cannot be admitted to the Embassy. Other items that cannot be brought into the building include perfume and cologne (above 30ml), weapons and glass bottles.
Prohibited items cannot be stored at the Embassy so leave them at home or store them securely before you arrive. Left luggage facilities are available for a fee at several airports, coach stations, and mainline train stations, including Waterloo and Victoria.
Please see our appointment guide (color PDF, 274 kb) to help you prepare for your interview and find your way to the U.S. Embassy in London. We suggest that you print the guide and bring it with you to your appointment so that you can check it on the day.
