Study

In general spouses and/or children holding derivative visas, may study on that visa.  If qualified, however, they may apply for the F-1 visa.  If you have school age children, you should refer to the regulations governing the issuance of F-1 visas.

Spouses of an F-1 or M-1 visa holder may not engage in a full course of study on an F-2 or M-2 visa, but may pursue avocational or recreational education.  While children may attend school in grades K through 12 (ages approximately 5 – 18) on derivative F-2 or M-2 visas, they may also apply for an F-1 visa, if eligible. If you have school age children, you should refer to the regulations governing the issuance of F-1 visas.
