Applications Processed by the National Visa Center

If the National Visa Center (NVC) is processing your application, they will schedule the visa interview before sending your file to the Immigrant Visa Unit at the Embassy.

If you have any questions concerning your application before the interview is scheduled, please contact the NVC.

The Immigrant Visa Unit in London cannot assist you until the appointment for the interview has been scheduled and we are in receipt of your file.

The National Visa Center will not schedule the visa interview until you have completed all of the necessary steps through them, including completing all of the required forms, and submitting copies of all of the applicable documents, and they have confirmed that a visa number is available for your use, if required.

You will receive an appointment letter from the National Visa Center confirming the date and time you are required to appear at the Embassy for the visa interview, once your application has been processed.  You are required to bring this letter with you.

If you are unable to attend the scheduled interview, you may reschedule the appointment online.  If you are applying for an immigrant visa in the family sponsored (F-1, F-2, F-3, F-4) or employment based (E-1, E-2, E-3, E-4 or E-5)  categories, you should note that if they re-schedule the appointment for a different month, the Immigrant Visa Unit may not be able to process their application and you may have to wait several months before final action can be taken in your case

You are required to bring the confirmation page that is generated when the appointment is re-scheduled.  You will find this document by clicking on the “Print Instructions” link on that confirmation page.

All visa applicants, regardless of age, require a medical examination.

The medical examination must take place at least 5 workdays before the visa interview.

If the results of the medical examination are not received in time for the interview, your application will be refused pending receipt of the required report.  This will severely delay your application.

Information on scheduling an appointment for the medical examination is available here (PDF, 9 pages).

If you have been advised that your application has been transferred to the Embassy, you should allow approximately 8 weeks for your file to be received and registered by the Immigrant Visa Unit.
