7 November 2022. During the World Leaders Summit of COP27, the United States and the United Kingdom underline our support of the Green Shipping Challenge, which builds on last year’s Clydebank Declaration for green shipping corridors and are pleased to announce our intention to support the establishment of green shipping corridors between our countries.
Green shipping corridors are a key means of spurring the early adoption of zero-emission fuels and technologies to place the shipping sector on a pathway to align with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
To advance our intention, we are launching a U.S.-UK Green Shipping Corridor Task Force with the aim of establishing green shipping corridors between our countries. Among other activities, the task force will convene subnational and private-sector stakeholders and collaborate to drive innovation, R&D, and demonstration projects. We will also strengthen our collaboration within the Zero Emission Shipping Mission.
Demonstrating our whole-of-government effort to help spur a zero-emission shipping sector, this task force will include participants from the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the UK Department for Transport and other relevant government departments.
