If you have gathered the documents required in support of your application, your next step is to get the fee.  Click on the service you are applying for from the list below for the specific fee amount and correct method of application.

IMPORTANT: Please disregard any fee amounts or expedite fees stated on the application form you completed as that information is not relevant for applicants outside the United States.

The precise fee amount required for your application in the UK is provided below once you have clicked on the service you are applying for.


URGENT TRAVEL:
If you have urgent travel plans (within three weeks), you should still select the type of service you are applying for. The fee, documents and application form you need will not change. The only difference is that you should follow the instructions to apply in person, even if applications for the service you are applying for are usually submitted by mail.

FEE AMOUNT AND METHOD OF APPLICATION

As fee amounts and exchange rates change periodically, please check this webpage just before you obtain your payment method to make sure you have the correct fee amount at the time you apply.

Fees are payable in U.S. dollars or pounds sterling at the exchange rate set by the U.S. government.
Please pay the exact amount for the service you are applying for. We cannot accept an overpayment or an underpayment.

Fee: $110 or £91.

Method of application: By mail.

Important: If you need a new U.S. passport within three weeks and/or if you are unable to obtain an acceptable payment method to apply by mail, then you should apply in person.

Fee: $100 for the Consular Report of Birth (CRBA) application and $115 for the child’s first passport application.

If the child is aged 16 or 17, the fee is $100 and $145 for the passport.

Method of application: In person only. The child is required to attend.

Fee: $115

Method of application: In person only. The child is required to attend.

Fee: $145 (aged 16 or over).
$115 (under 16).

Method of application: In person only.
If the application is on behalf of a child, the child is required to attend.

*This information also applies to certain applicants renewing a U.S. passport to reflect a change of name when the current passport was issued under 12 months ago

Method of application: By mail only.

Important: If you have overseas travel planned within the next three weeks and your limited validity passport is not valid for that travel, you will be required to submit an entirely new passport application and pay the applicable fee. Please click here for more detailed instructions. It is not possible to renew an emergency limited-validity passport for a full validity passport with no fee on an emergency basis.

Fee: $110 (if you are aged 16 or over and able to bring your current U.S. passport to the appointment).
$145 (if you aged 16 or over and are unable to bring your current U.S. passport to the appointment).
$115 (for a child under the age of 16, no matter whether or not the current U.S. passport is available on the day of the appointment).

$115 (under 16).

If the application is on behalf of a child, the child is required to attend.

A U.S. passport card can only be used to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry. A passport card cannot be used for international travel by air.  A passport card may not be widely accepted as a form of identification outside the United States.

Fee:
If you are applying for a passport card for an adult at the same time as applying for a passport, you should pay the applicable fee for the passport service from the list on this website and $30 or £25 for the passport card.

If you are applying for to renew a passport card for an adult and not applying for a passport book at the same time, the fee is $30 or £25.

Method of application: By mail (unless it is being submitted together with a passport service which requires an in-person appearance).

If you wish to apply for a passport card for a child, please discuss this with the consular officer during the child’s appointment.

If you are renewing your child’s passport to reflect a change of name, please click ‘Renew a child’s passport (under the age of 16)’ from the list above.

If you are renewing an undamaged 10 year validity passport that was issued 12 months or more ago to reflect a change of name for one of the reasons in the bullet pointed list below, and you are renewing your U.S. passport for the first time since the reason for the change of name took place:

  • Marriage
  • Civil partnership
  • Court Order
  • Statutory Declaration/Change of Name Deed
  • Divorce or dissolution of civil partnership
  • Widow(er) reverting to birth name or former legal name

then please click ‘Renew an adult passport (issued within the last 15 years with 10 year validity)’ from the list above for the information you need.

If you are applying to renew an undamaged 10 year validity passport that was issued under 12 months ago, then please click ‘Exchange a limited validity (emergency) passport for a full-validity passport’ from the list above for details.

If you are applying for a U.S. passport to reflect a change of name for any other reason, you will be required to apply in person. Please click ‘Applying for your first ever U.S. passport’ from the list above for the correct fee and method of application.



HOW TO PAY – ACCEPTED PAYMENT METHODS

Now that you know how to apply and how much to pay for your service, click here to find out how to pay. It is important that you read this information carefully to choose the right type of payment for your service.

Please submit the exact fee amount, which you will find above by selecting your service from the list above. There is no expedite fee for U.S. passport applications in the United Kingdom. If you submit a type of payment that cannot be accepted for your service, or if the amount is incorrect, your application will be delayed.

  • A Bank Draft (in U.S. dollars or pounds sterling) to the exact amount made payable to the “U.S. Disbursing Officer”
  • International Money Order (in U.S. dollars) to the exact amount  made payable to the “U.S. Disbursing Officer”
  • A Postal Money Order (in U.S. dollars or pounds sterling) to the exact amount made payable to the “U.S. Disbursing Officer”

We cannot accept cash (notes or coins), credit or debit cards for applications by mail. We are also unable to accept electronic transfer, personal checks (cheques), SWIFT transfers, IBAN transfers, e-transfers, certified checks, traveler’s checks, or counter checks.

As fees and exchange rates are subject to change, the exact fee amount in your case will be confirmed when you attend your appointment.

  • Credit or debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Discover or American Express).
    Please note, all card transactions will be in U.S. dollars, and may be subject to additional fees applied by your payment card provider.
  • Cash in U.S. dollars or pounds sterling
    Please note, the option to pay by cash applies to applications in person at the U.S. Embassy in London or the Consulate General in Belfast only. The Consulate in Edinburgh cannot accept cash payments. Please note, cash cannot be submitted for applications by mail to any location.

We cannot accept personal checks (cheques), certified checks, traveler’s checks, or counter checks.
