How do I mail original documents to the Federal Benefits Unit?

Please do not mail original documents to SSA’s international office in Baltimore!  To ensure secure delivery and return, all original documents should be mailed to the Federal Benefits Unit via Special Delivery from the Royal Mail.

If you are mailing documents in connection with claiming benefits ensure you include:

  • a note of your claim number;
  • the name of your Claims Representative (if known);
  • a note telling us if your documents are to be transferred to a technician at SSA in Baltimore.

A return self-addressed Special Delivery envelope must be provided.
You should retain the tracking numbers in the event a problem occurs.
