U.S.-UK Trade Facts

 

  • In 2014, U.S. exports of agricultural, fish and forestry products to the UK were $2.7 billion
  • Consumer-oriented food and beverage products remain the most important sector in export value terms, amounting to over a third ($984 million) of total U.S. exports of agricultural, fish and forestry products to the UK.  Ranked as the twelfth most import destination for U.S. consumer-orientated food products, the UK continues to differentiate itself from its European neighbors in this product area:o   Fruit, vegetables and nuts account for 40 per cent of this categoryo   Among consumer ready products, U.S. wine and beer are the biggest single sellero   There has also been notable success for branded snack foods and grocery goods
  • The UK is also a key market for U.S. fish and seafood products:o   Over half of U.S. seafood exports to the UK is canned salmon shipments, although increasing volumes of fresh and frozen salmon and pollack from the wilds of Alaska have entered the UK over the last 5 years
  • U.S. forestry product exports to the UK are booming due to the importation of wood pellets for use in the biofuel sector.  Indeed, calendar year 2014 trade to the UK generated a record $636 million of export revenue, a near 50 per cent rise year-on-year
