U.S. Embassy, London, is in search of a resourceful, service-orientated and detail focused Safety Program Coordinator.
In this varied and challenging role, you will be responsible for assisting and reporting to the Post Occupational Safety and Health Officer (POSHO, Facility Manager), your duties will include:
• carrying out the day-to-day functions of the Safety, Health and Environmental Management (SHEM) and Fire Protection Division (FIR) programs at Post, as required by relevant U.S. Government regulations;
• assuring that all post government-owned and leased property in country meet the requirements of relevant U.S. Government regulations, as well as other related Departmental requirements which may exist.
Your working background will be in the maintenance, safety, and/or, construction field, performing work in the field of occupational safety. You will also have a strong track record as a construction supervisor or quality control assurance inspector, with experience managing people and resources. This experience will have honed your ability to coordinate, prioritize, and oversee projects.

This role will also tap into your solid working knowledge of database management, the Microsoft Suite, with an emphasis on Excel, and the ability to quickly learn and work with bespoke/specialized computer software.
Excellent written, oral and research skills are paramount in this position – you will be regularly called upon to conduct training, drafting of materials, and reports in the performance of your duties.

University degree in the construction and/ or safety and environmental management fields such as Architecture, Engineering, or Safety and Occupational Health is required.
Experience in the maintenance or construction field performing repair work or in the field of occupational safety is required. Additional work experience as a construction supervisor or quality control assurance inspector with experience managing people and resources is required.
Level 4 written and spoken English is required.
Comprehensive knowledge of SHEM, Fire and OSHA guidelines and required practices and procedures is required. Must be familiar with country specific regulations and standards regarding local safety practices and laws and must be able to interpret them for post compliance. Must be familiar with the US and International Building Codes is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must possess excellent written and oral skills as well as public speaking ability in order to conduct training, draft reports, and produce work permits for maintenance activities as required. Must be able to direct people to accomplish goals and to follow procedures. Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and oversee multiple projects is required. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Ability to be flexible, resourceful, service-oriented, and self-motivated is required. Must be tactful but firm while conducting safety assessments, reporting deficiencies and implementing post programs. Must be able to handle stressful situations while dealing with accidents’ occurrence. Ability to understand building plans is required. Must be familiar with the basic use of various tools and equipment related to maintenance operations. Standard level keyboard and basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office is required. A current full (manual) UK/EU/EEA driver’s license and have the ability to operate Government Owned vehicles is required. Must be able to lift 23kg.
