Demonstration Alert: PLANNED DEMONSTRATIONS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM, DECEMBER 16 and 17, 2023

Location:  United Kingdom (Countrywide)

Event:  Media report various planned demonstrations are expected to take place throughout the United Kingdom the weekend of December 16 and 17.  Protests are planned throughout central London, Belfast, Glasgow, and various other cities.

U.S. citizens are encouraged to avoid areas of demonstrations and always exercise caution within the vicinity of demonstrations or if caught in a demonstration.  Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate to violence.  Do not attempt to drive or walk through a demonstration.  Road closures and public transportation services may be impacted, U.S. citizens are encouraged to monitor local transportation information and coordinate travel routes accordingly.

During the holiday season there is potential for increased crime and acts of violent extremism.  U.S. citizens should exercise extra vigilance at holiday festivals and events, places of worship, and locations with large crowds.  Please find additional information and guidance here.

Event:  March for Palestine – Stop the Genocide
Date:  Sunday, December 17, 2023
Location:  Beginning at Queens University Belfast and marching to the U.S. Consulate.
Time:  1200 local time

Glasgow

Event:  Ceasefire Now Glasgow Demonstration
Date:  Saturday, December 16, 2023
Location:  Buchanan Gallery Steps
Time: 1300 local time.

England and Wales

Event: Day of Action for Palestine
Date: Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17, 2023

Time: Starting at 1030 through 1600 local time

Event: Stop Amhara Genocide in Ethiopia
Date: Sunday, December 17, 2023
Location:  Beginning at 10 Downing Street and walking to the U.S. Embassy in Nine Elms.
Time: Starting at 1200 and finishing at 1600 local time
