An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Passport and Citizenship Assistant/Cashier to join the Consular section at U.S. Embassy, London.

With a keen eye for detail, your main duties will include: processing routine passport and citizenship cases received through personal appearance, mail and the Military Courier System; interviewing applicants seeking routine passport and citizenship services and processing cases to the point of final review; taking responsibility for the collection of Passport Services and Special Consular Services Unit fees in a quick and efficient manner; issuing official receipts and accounts for all fees taken at the close of business; preparing daily and monthly fiscal and non-fiscal reports.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

EDUCATION:
4 GCSEs, High School Diploma or an equivalent academic qualification is required.

EXPERIENCE:
Progressively responsible experience in work involving the application of complex subject matter is required. As employees are required to research the Foreign Affairs Manual and apply it correctly, the incumbent must have prior experience navigating complex regulations and applying them in a practical work situation. Must also have experience in data entry and working as part of a team to provide a service, including extensive face-to-face contact with customers in a high-volume, customer-oriented operation. Also required is prior experience as a cashier, including accepting payments and handling cash.

LANGUAGE:
Level IV (fluent) in both written and spoken English is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of clerical procedures is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent customer care and interpersonal skills are required. Good judgement and sensitivity in dealing with distressed or demanding customers is required. Ability to explain and apply complex regulations and to follow clear direction is required. Must be able to work accurately, have excellent attention to detail and know when to seek assistance or guidance or refer a case to a supervisor. Ability to handle cash and credit cards and produce reports quickly and accurately is required. An ability to type at 40wpm is required. Ability to use MS Word and Outlook, and to draft clear, basic correspondence is required.
