The Facility Management Office (FM) at the U.S. Embassy London is in search of a highly skilled Locksmith who will be responsible for all locksmith repairs of approximately 300 Government Owned and Operating Lease properties, as well as, the London Embassy, Edinburgh and Belfast Consulates.
Duties will include: working with safes, high security type locking devices, internal door actuated pin locking devices, electro mechanical systems (mag lock, control pads, electrical controller, programming), door closing systems (both hydraulic and electrical), sliding door systems and hardware, window restrictors, and small locking devices as used on cabinets and drawers.

Completion of secondary school is required. Completion of vocational training or apprenticeship accredited by the British Locksmiths Institute or the Master Locksmiths Association is required.
Work experience as a skilled Locksmith is required.
Level IV spoken and written English is required.
Must have full journeyman knowledge, practices, and procedures required by a journeyman Locksmith. Carpentry, electrical and welding basics also required. The incumbent also needs to be familiar with the installation and removal of fire extinguishers, smoke alarms and CO detectors. Position holder is required to be completely familiar with local and national building codes. Knowledge of how to open safes when the locking device is malfunctioning (both destructive and non-destructive) is required. Knowledge of electro-mechanical locking devices such as electronic magnetic locking devices, including programming, installation, troubleshooting, and repair is required. Knowledge of the composition, operation, and installation of a variety of hardware is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have a good working knowledge of facilities management. Must be able to provide technical guidance and provide advice to the Facilities Manager, and to the maintenance supervisory staff about any related problems. Ability to plan, layout and complete the installation, modification and repair of various hardware systems is required. Ability to enter locked devices without pass keys is required. Must be able to use all tools of the trade. A current full (manual) UK/EU/EEA driver’s license is required. The ability to be able to drive government owned vehicles is required. A patient approach, with the ability to pay attention to detail is required. Problem solving skills, excellent practical skills, and good customer care skills are required.
