Work Hours:
Full-time, average 50 hours/week but have to work as and when directed by their Supervisor, including the irregular hours normally inherent in domestic service/household duties

Salary:
Salary Range for the position £23,535.00 – £32,035.00 gross per annum, depending upon experience.

Basic Function Of Position

 The Department of State owns or leases many properties that are historically, architecturally or culturally significant. Winfield House is one such property, and many of the contents are fine examples of their type and are extremely valuable.

It is important that all members of staff respect these cultural assets, and care for them in such a way that their value can be preserved for many years to come, so allowing everyone who stays in or visits Winfield House to enjoy the important collection in its unique surroundings.

As part of a small team the Housemaid assists in the day-to-day Housekeeping function at Winfield House (Residence/WH) to ensure the highest possible standard of service to the Ambassador, his/her Family and Guests, bearing in mind that, additionally, standards at the Residence also reflect on the President, the State department and the Citizens of the United States.

Liaises with the Lady-of-the-House, the Secretary/PA at Winfield House, the Senior Housemaid, the House Manager and, sometimes, the Senior Footman.

Liaises with relevant Residence departments (Office, Kitchen, Pantry, Gardening and Security).

Supports the Senior Housemaid and the Laundress in all aspects of the Housekeeping function at Winfield House.

Helps to maintain suitable working levels of Housekeeping, Household and Stationery Supplies.

Sometimes may have to deputise for the Senior Housemaid in his/her absence.

Discusses injuries and/or illnesses which might effect the day-to-day operation of the Housekeeping department.

Sometimes asked to assist at other USG properties.

Performs any other duties as and when required to ensure the smooth operation of the Residence.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

EDUCATION:
Secondary school education is required.

EXPERIENCE:
Work experience in a quality Housekeeping environment is required.

LANGUAGE:
Level II (Limited Knowledge) written and spoken English is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Good knowledge of Housekeeping in the domestic service sector is required. Sound knowledge of the care of top-quality linens, furniture, upholstery and clothes is required. Sound knowledge of Housekeeping materials and equipment and their usage is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Competent in performing domestic tasks. Ability to communicate readily with his/her Supervisor, in order to complete the work is required. Must be aware that, as a representative of the Ambassador, the US Embassy and the USG, standards of personal dress, hygiene, manners and moral conduct are of the utmost importance. Must not put the Ambassador, his/her Family, Guests or work colleagues at the risk of injury or fire.
