On June 15, the United States recognizes the importance of fiscal transparency by governments around the world with the launch of the 2020 Fiscal Transparency Report.

Fiscal transparency is a critical element of effective public financial management, helps build market confidence, and underpins economic sustainability. It also fosters greater government accountability by providing a window into government budgets for citizens, helping citizens hold their leadership accountable, and facilitating better-informed public debate.
The 2020 Fiscal Transparency Report covers 141 governments. Of these, 76 met the fiscal transparency standards, and 65 did not. Of those 65, 14 made “significant progress” towards meeting the minimum requirements.
