The U.S. Embassy, London, is in search of a results driven Electrical Engineer, who has meticulous attention to detail and outstanding interpersonal skills.

If successful in securing this role, you will be at the forefront of providing professional electrical engineering services for the New London Embassy (NLE), as directed by the Deputy Facilities Manager (D/FM), overseeing the maintenance and repair work throughout the NLE on critical and non-critical electrical components within the functional/office building, as well as, at the Embassy’s owned/leased properties.

Your main responsibility will be to manage the NLE Electrical Power Distribution systems; both interior and exterior. The electrical distribution and equipment includes:

  • emergency Generators
  • Voltage Regulators
  • high voltage Transformers
  • medium and low-voltage Switchgears
  • Automatic Transfer Switches
  • Motor Control centers
  • distribution Panelboards
  • electrical Feeders and distribution cabling
  • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) equipment

Additionally, you will also have responsibility for the other energy producing systems such as the Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system installed on the NLE rooftop and the Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) which uses below ground thermal heat as renewable energy for domestic hot water.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

EDUCATION:
Completion of a Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent, in Mechanical, Electrical, General, or Civil Engineering is required.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience working as a project manager/supervisor/foreman at a manufacturing plant, major resort, hospital, office complex, or a large university/school system managing a preventative maintenance program that incorporates and utilizes a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Work experience must demonstrate a progression of increased responsibility throughout their career, additionally requiring supervisory experience is required.

LANGUAGE:
Level 4 in both written and spoken English is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of AutoCAD to review electrical design drawings, electrical design principles, testing instruments to analyze and repair electrical problems. Ability to diagnose the root cause of an electrical problem and what materials and equipment will be needed to facilitate repairs. Ability to work safely on electrical components including the use of lock-out/tag-out safety measures. Knowledge of local electrical contractors and supply stores that can provide materials and/or service support for electrical systems within his/her area of responsibility. To have detailed technical knowledge of all the electrical systems within his/her area of responsibility is required. 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, riser diagrams, wiring schematics, various equipment schedules, and other construction documents is required. Good computer skills are required. The ability to use and navigate through the Microsoft Office suite package using MS Word, Office, Excel, Database entry, AutoCAD, and MS Project is required. Proficiency in electrical engineering, engineering management software, preparation and maintenance of daily construction inspection logs is required. Ability in reviewing coordination design drawings for code compliance is required. To create Electric engineering costs estimates and provide briefings to the Senior/Deputy Facility Manager, the Management Counselor, and other stakeholders on Electric engineering issues is required. Ability to draft detailed and concise written reports in English for the Senior/Deputy Facility Manager is required. A current full (manual) UK/EU/EEA driver’s license is required. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to handle a large workload and mulitple tasks simultaneously. Must be highly organized. Must be able to lift 15 kilos.
